What is Yoga Therapy and how it can help
Yoga Therapy
A self empowering process where the individual works one on one with the Therapist, using specific yoga techniques and principles in a therapeutic way to address the individual's needs and goals with the aim to facilitate healing at all five levels of being; body, breath, mind, emotion, and spirit. As well as in group classes.
It works in conjunction with modern medicine and is not an alternative to it.
How Yoga Therapy Helps
Researchers have learned that Yoga has a capacity to affect the nervous system improving our ability to self-regulate. A Yoga Therapist has in depth training to asses the individual's needs and capabilities and apply appropriate Yoga techniques and principles to recommend a safe and evolving personalized practice that will help the individual meet their needs and goals.
Some Areas where it is known that Yoga Therapy can help are:
Chronic pain (low-back, arthritis, premenstrual syndrome, and other types of pain such as that associated with fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue syndrome);
Mental Health (anxiety, depression, trauma and PTSD, insomnia and others)
Neurological issues and complications of stroke, Multiple Sclerosis (MS), Parkinson’s disease, and traumatic brain injury (TBI)
Support for illnesses such as cancer, diabetes and heart disease
Healthy aging and more.

Step I: Free 15 minute consultation to answer any question you may have. (optional)
Step II: Fill out a short intake form before we meet.
Step III: Initial Consultation (90 minutes) where I will get to know you and learn about your goals, needs and capabilities. Then together we will create your personalized practice. A drawing of the practice will be given to you.
Step IV: Follow up session(s) to update your personal practice in order to meet your changing and evolving goals and needs. I ask that you give as much feedback and communicate any questions and concerns you may have to me in between sessions. Follow up sessions are highly recommended.
What does a personalized practice look like
Like snowflakes no two practices look the same as every person has different needs and goals. One practice may be very gentle and another may be more energetic depending on the individual.
Some common Yoga techniques that may be used are: Movement, Asana (poses), Breathing, Visualization, Sound and Meditation.
What is Yoga Nidra?
(Yogic Sleep)
It is a form of deep relaxation and meditation technique where, while lying in a comfortable position (usually well supported on your back) you will be guided through the state of consciousness between waking and sleeping with instructions similar to a guided meditation. You will be asked to become aware of different bodily sensations, emotions, thoughts and images. This deep state of relaxation of body and mind helps us to regulate our interoceptive awareness, facilitating our ability to come to a balanced state of being; calm and aware.

Lynn Margaret (she/her) is a Hamilton area based certified Yoga Therapist with the International Association of Yoga Therapists (IAYT), Yoga Instructor and Meditation Facilitator.
Lynn's purpose is to serve all who want to benefit from yoga and as a veteran feels a strong desire to work with the military, first responders and front-line health workers communities and their families.
Lynn has always had a passion to help others reach their fitness and wellness goals. Her journey started in 1999, when during her free time, on a voluntary basis she led group fitness classes and gave personal training
sessions. In 2014, after retiring from a 30-year career in the Canadian Armed Forces she discovered the profound effect a regular yoga and meditation practice has on the whole being: body, breath, mind emotion and spirit. Yoga and more specifically Yoga Therapy helped opened the way for Lynn to make a genuine and deep connection with her self. The Yoga Therapy process helped to bring her strength, resiliency and self-empowerment to take charge of her own healing and personal growth.
Lynn draws on this personal experience to bring compassion, understanding and care to create a safe and trusting therapeutic relationship with her students (clients). Lynn has a deep desire to help alleviate pain and suffering and promote improved health and well-being in others through the progressive, non-invasive, and complementary process of Yoga Therapy.
